Name: Ethan

Age: 14

On a scale of 1-10 I thought the books were (1 being terrible 10 be the best): 9

What I liked most about the books was: Even though the books are labeled as “Teen reads” I think people of all ages would enjoy them. They definitely keep you wanting more. I read all for books in about 5 days. If you like fantasy, sci-fi, and medieval type books you’ll love these. I can’t wait to read “Showdown”.

Any other positive thoughts about the books: They were clean, entertaining, and engaging.

Any negative thoughts about the books: Only that I think Dekker could have made them more “Christian”. But other then that, no.

“I love these books, they are a fast read as you get sucked into this new world that Ted Dekker has created. the only bad thing about His books is waiting until the next one. I do believe he is the greatest author of the decade. I cant wait until the next book.”

The Lost Books Series, made up of Chosen, Infidel, Renagade, and Chaos, is the first young adult series written by veteran author Ted Dekker and though it’s written with a younger audience in mind, everyone who enjoys Ted’s works of fantasy will enjoy these books. Set in between Black and Red from the Circle Trilogy, The Lost Books follow four teens, Johnis, Silvie, Billos, and Darsal, on their secret quest to find the seven lost books of history before the Dark One and save the world from his evil plan. Released together at the end of last year Chosen and Infidel introduce us to the characters and get the story and plot lines going. In Renagade and Chaos, released together this spring, the story picks up speed and starts to get crazy, in a way that’s famillar to all of Ted’s readers, as the characters begin to get desperate to find the books and end their search.

Fast paced and well written the Lost Books are much shorter (around 260 pages each) than a regular novel, but their shorter length and smaller pages do make them much less intimidating for younger readers without sacrificing the action and good aginst evil plot lines that older readers are accustomed to. Full of references and characters from other books by Ted, particularly the Circle Trilogy and the Project Showdown series, the Lost Books can be read on their own, as long as you read them in order, but will be best understood and appreciated by those who have read Ted’s other books. I reccomend these books to younger teenagers who want to read Ted’s books but aren’t sure where to start and to older readers who have read all of his books and want to continue the stories started in the Trilogy and the Project Showdown books. Overall I give The Lost Books Series 4 stars out of 5.
